Nancy Guthrie case update: What does the blood spatter found outside reveal about the case?
Fresh analysis is shedding new light on the mysterious disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie. Investigators are now closely examining physical evidence found just outside her home, hoping it may help piece together what happened in her final moments. Experts say the smallest details could hold the biggest answers, as per a report by Parade.

What does the blood pattern reveal?

Retired FBI special agent Jim Clemente, speaking to NewsNation, said the blood spatter offers important clues about Guthrie’s position at the time.

“This tells me a number of things, and it’s very specific. One is that … at this point, Nancy’s face was very close to the ground, within a foot of the ground. This could be she was either on her knees, hunched over, or actually lying on the ground,” Clemente explained.

He noted that the structure of the spatter is consistent with someone being very low to the surface, suggesting Guthrie may have been in distress.

Could the pattern indicate she was injured?

Clemente also pointed to the type of blood pattern itself. According to his analysis, the marks suggest a specific physical response, as per a report by Parade.

"Medium velocity can be created when somebody actually aspirates blood and then coughs it up,” he said. “You can see three circular blood spots, but they are hollow. You see mainly the rings. This definitely came from her. She coughed it out.”

Authorities have already confirmed through DNA testing that the blood belongs to Guthrie.

Was she moved after the incident?

Another detail has raised further questions. Clemente observed that the pattern appears to shift along the walkway, which may suggest movement after the initial incident.

He said this could mean Guthrie was carried “perhaps with her face up,” noting that the blood drops do not continue consistently along the path.

Earlier analysis from forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden, speaking to Fox News Digital, supported similar conclusions about the nature of the blood, as per a report by Parade.

“The nature of the blood spots with little pale centers or donut shapes are typical for drops that come from the nose or mouth, because they’re mixed with air,” Baden said. “that means she’s coughing up blood or dripping from the nose. Otherwise, there would be a dripping from a cut from above, possibly from the hands or face.”
