Nancy Guthrie case update: New theories emerge on 'porch figure' and potential 'boss' involvement- here's what you need to know
Nancy Guthrie case update: More than three months after Nancy Guthrie vanished, the case continues to raise troubling questions. With no confirmed suspect and limited answers, a new television special is now revisiting the mystery with fresh theories that could reshape how the public understands the disappearance.

Airing on May 6, NewsNation Presents: The Nancy Guthrie Mystery takes a closer look at the case that has gripped national attention. Hosted by Brian Entin, the program brings in experienced criminal profilers to explore what might have happened behind the scenes.

What new theory are experts discussing?

In preview clips obtained by Parade, the discussion turns to the person seen on Guthrie’s front porch — often referred to as the “porch figure.” Experts question whether this individual acted alone or was part of a larger plan.
The profilers suggest the possibility of a coordinated effort, hinting at the involvement of a controlling figure operating in the background. This idea introduces the concept of a “boss” orchestrating the crime rather than a lone actor carrying it out, as quoted in a report by Parade.

Dr. Ann Burgess, one of the profilers featured, offered a striking perspective during the discussion.

“I just had a thought. That person [on Nancy’s stoop] may have been eliminated,” she said. When asked who could have been responsible, she responded simply, “the boss.”

Could there have been more than one person involved?

The suggestion that multiple people may have played a role adds another layer to the case. According to the experts, the nature of the disappearance points to planning and coordination.

“It was well-planned. They got away with it. And they pulled a type of case that we’ve never seen before, as far as we know,” Dr. Burgess added.

This theory has also surfaced in other discussions surrounding the case. A retired FBI agent had earlier raised a similar possibility during a live broadcast in April, though authorities have not confirmed any such claims.

What do we know about the case so far?

Nancy Guthrie, 84, is believed to have been abducted from her Arizona home on February 1. Despite early investigative leads, officials have not identified a suspect or determined her current whereabouts.
The case remains active, with law enforcement continuing to follow tips and analyze forensic evidence.
Speaking to Parade, Brian Entin said the upcoming special focuses on patterns drawn from past crimes to better understand potential motives and suspects, as quoted in a report by Parade.

“I think people [will find the special] interesting because [the profilers] have some fascinating theories based on past cases they’ve worked, as well as statistics,” Entin expalined. “They’re really focused on patterns in other crimes and kidnappings to help narrow down motive and who they think this [suspect] could be.”
