Nancy Guthrie case update: Could more than one person be responsible for her disappearance? Here's what a new theory suggests
A retired investigator believes multiple people were involved in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie. He suggests between two to four accomplices may have coordinated the event. The suspect seen on camera likely did not act alone. Authorities are i...

Investigators are still working through evidence, but outside experts are beginning to piece together what may have happened. One emerging theory suggests this may not have been the work of a single individual.
As the search continues, the focus has shifted toward the possibility of coordination, and what that could mean for the investigation moving forward.

Could more than one suspect be involved?
A retired homicide detective, Kurt Dabb, believes the disappearance likely involved more than one person. Based on his experience, he suggested that a crime of this scale would be difficult for a single individual to carry out.
"It's more than likely the home was canvassed prior, either by the kidnapper himself or an accomplice," Dabb told Parade during an interview. "Whether or not they knew a camera was there was a culmination of their reconnoiter."
He went further, explaining that incidents like this often require coordination. "I believe there are anywhere between two to four accomplices," he said, adding that the logistics involved point toward multiple people working together, as per a report by Newsweek.
"The logistics of something of this magnitude is too much for one person to handle in my professional opinion based on the facts as I know them right now."

What does the surveillance footage reveal?
Authorities have released video from a doorbell camera showing a masked and armed man outside Guthrie’s home before she disappeared. The footage has become a key part of the investigation.
According to officials, the suspect spent around 40 minutes inside the home after the camera was disconnected at approximately 1:45 a.m. on February 1. Not long after, Guthrie’s pacemaker lost connection with her cellphone around 2:30 a.m., suggesting that she may have been taken during that window.
Dabb also noted that the individual appeared to have a clear purpose. "I see nothing different on the video than what is publicly known," he said. "That being said, burglars don't go to burglarize a house with a full backpack. This was a kidnapping," as per a report by Newsweek.
What are investigators focusing on now?
While authorities have not confirmed the involvement of multiple suspects, they have acknowledged the possibility. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has previously indicated that more than one person could be connected to the case.
Meanwhile, investigators continue to analyze physical evidence collected from the home. Former FBI intelligence analyst Jennifer Doebler said the process is likely detailed and time-consuming.
"They are likely working with both brick-and-mortar and online retailers that sell the backpack/clothing worn by the man in the video and following up on any and all leads that result," Doebler explained. "For example, they could subpoena Amazon for every single purchase of the backpack worn by the man in the video over the past year, and then follow up on all those leads to identify every purchaser. While painstaking, this could be very fruitful."
The case has also raised growing concerns about Guthrie’s safety. Sheriff Nanos has previously stated that she could face serious health risks without her daily medication, as per a report by Newsweek.
As days turn into weeks, the urgency surrounding the investigation has only increased. While officials continue to follow every lead, the emerging theory of accomplices adds a new dimension to a case that remains unresolved — and deeply concerning.
