Nancy Guthrie case heats up after police detain man outside Arizona home
Nearly five weeks after Nancy Guthrie vanished from her home in Tucson, the search for the 84-year-old has taken another dramatic turn. Authorities have detained a man outside the property after he was allegedly seen driving past the residence dozens of times.

The arrest comes as investigators continue to piece together what happened on the night Nancy disappeared on February 1. New surveillance footage and fresh witness accounts are now adding further layers to a case that has drawn national attention.

With few confirmed breakthroughs so far, every new development is being closely examined by investigators and the public alike.

What happened with the man arrested near Nancy Guthrie’s home?

According to reports, police detained an unidentified man late on Thursday night after he was seen behaving suspiciously near Nancy Guthrie’s home. A photographer reportedly noticed the man driving past the property repeatedly, estimating he had passed the home between 50 and 100 times, as per a report by The Express US.

The photographer then questioned the man and allegedly spotted a photo of the missing 84-year-old on the driver’s phone before contacting authorities, as per a report by The Express US.

Police later detained the man and reportedly arrested him for DUI after he failed a field sobriety test. Authorities spoke with him “for a significant amount of time,” according to reporting shared by journalist Brian Entin. At this stage, investigators have not confirmed whether the arrest is directly connected to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.

What does new surveillance video reveal?

A neighbor has also shared surveillance footage from the night Nancy is believed to have been abducted. The video, captured by a Ring doorbell camera at a nearby home, shows multiple vehicles traveling along nearby roads between 12:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. on February 1, as per a report by The Express US.

In total, twelve vehicles were recorded driving past during those early morning hours. One of the videos was captured around 2:36 a.m.

That timing has drawn attention because it occurred just eight minutes after Nancy’s pacemaker last synced with her iPhone. Investigators believe she was taken sometime during this window, though it remains unclear whether any of the vehicles seen in the footage passed the area more than once.

Authorities have also indicated that the newly surfaced video and the recent arrest are not believed to be connected.

Were suspicious individuals seen near the home earlier?

Some neighbors say they noticed unusual activity in the weeks leading up to the suspected kidnapping. One neighbor, Aldine Meister, described seeing a man walking near Nancy’s property who appeared out of place.

“He didn’t have your typical walking gear on, and he had his hat pulled really far over his eyes,” neighbor Aldine Meister told Fox News Digital. “He was kind of younger, and he just didn’t look like he was going out for a walk. He just didn’t fit," she added.

Another individual described by witnesses was said to be around 5 feet 9 inches tall, Hispanic, with a close-trimmed beard and wearing a silver bracelet. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has not confirmed whether investigators are currently pursuing these descriptions, as per a report by The Express US.

How is the family coping as the search continues?

As the investigation stretches into its fifth week, Nancy’s daughter, Savannah Guthrie has made the difficult decision to return to New York and resume her role on Today, where she has served as a main anchor since 2012.

An insider said the decision was made so she could return to her children, their school routine, and her work responsibilities.

“She’s coming back to New York, for her kids and their school, and her life." “Savannah loves that job, and Nancy loved it, too," the source told The U.S. Sun.

During a recent visit to the television studios, Savannah’s husband Michael Feldman reportedly thanked colleagues for their prayers and support as the family continues to hope for answers.
