Why is MTV cancelling ‘Ridiculousness’?

MTV confirmed that “Ridiculousness” will officially end after its current season, marking the close of a 14-year run. A source familiar with the situation said the network wants to move toward a “more curated and experimental slate” of content, spotlighting new ideas and voices, as per a report by USA Today.

Though no new episodes will be produced, MTV plans to air the already-filmed installments through 2026. Reruns will also continue to run both on MTV and Paramount+.


How successful was ‘Ridiculousness’?

Since premiering in 2011, “Ridiculousness” became a staple of MTV’s lineup. The show, hosted by Rob Dyrdek alongside Sterling “Steelo” Brim and Lauren “Lolo” Wood, featured viral stunts, bloopers, and internet fails. Wood joined the series in 2024, replacing longtime co-host Chanel West Coast, as per a report by USA Today.

What’s behind Rob Dyrdek’s massive payday?

According to Bloomberg, MTV was paying Dyrdek “at least” $32.5 million, per bankruptcy filings from his company, Superjacket Productions, which filed for bankruptcy last month. The outlet reported he could have made more than $45 million annually had the series continued into 2028 and 2029, as per a report by USA Today.

MTV’s relationship with Dyrdek spans nearly two decades, beginning with “Rob & Big” (2006–2008) and “Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory” (2009–2015).
