Mount Semeru in Indonesia explodes once more, thousands evacuated

Mount Semeru, located in Indonesia’s Java, erupted on December 4, 2022. It is exactly a year of the previous deadly eruption. Because of protection, the government has given evacuation orders. Thousands of people have fled to safer places and settled in the 11 shelter camps.

The rescue team’s evacuation is in high spirits in Indonesia’s Java. The team that began its rescue yesterday is continuing to evacuate people from the mainland.

Although there has been less activity from the volcano, the officials have warned the people of the danger that might happen because of the cooling of the lava. Eleven evacuation campsites are built for the evacuated people. Over 2,300 people have fled from the mainland and are in camps.


The warning level was taken to its highest on December 5. On the day of starting eruption, it was kept on the second-highest level. Sensing the seriousness of the calamity, however, the officials increased the alert status to its highest level.



The major eruption, which happened last year, killed fifty-one people. More than 10,000 sought refuges as nearly five thousand homes were damaged.
