Close shave for MotoGP cameraman after Pedro Acosta’s bike crashes and cannons into fencing at Hungarian Grand Prix; shocking visuals surface

MotoGP has released shocking video footage showing one of its camera operators narrowly avoiding being hit by Pedro Acosta’s KTM after it crashed during Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday (August 23, 2025). The narrow escape has raised safety concerns at the motor racing event. The incident surfaced after the Balaton Park track introduced several safety measures before the return of a MotoGP event for the first time since 1992 this weekend.

Despite all measures in place, there are still concerns prevailing pertaining to the safety of the track, 7 News reported. The concerns exist precisely at the high-speed section of turn eight, which became witness to several crashes during qualifying on Saturday (August 23, 2025), including that of Acosta. In the video shared by MotoGP, it could be seen that chatter on the front tyre of the 21-year-old Spaniard’s bike caused him to lose control and slide out onto the gravel.




Acosta somehow managed to separate himself from the bike as he shot across the stretch of gravel between the track and the barriers. The bike slammed into the fencing and launched into the air. The horrific visuals show the RC16 actually hitting a camera, whose operator was almost on the verge of sustaining injuries. With luck on his side, the camera operator was not injured in the incident, despite getting a shock.

“Acosta’s crash was very nearly a tragedy today. This circuit simply isn’t appropriate for MotoGP,” 7 News quoted MotoGP reporter Simon Patterson as saying. Championship leader Marc Marquez was in complete control for the sprint later on Saturday, winning from pole by over two seconds.
