Detroit Lions safety Morice Norris was hospitalised after suffering a head injury during Friday’s preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons. The 24-year-old was hurt in the fourth quarter while tackling running back Nathan Carter, taking a knee to the head and collapsing to the turf.

Medical staff from both teams rushed to his aid before he was placed on a stretcher and driven off in an ambulance. Lions head coach Dan Campbell said Norris is breathing, talking, and has some movement, though further tests are being conducted. Norris, a former Fresno State standout, joined Detroit as an undrafted free agent in 2024.

Falcons running back Nathan Carter broke into the Detroit secondary on the first play of the fourth quarter. As Norris moved in for the tackle, Carter’s right knee struck him in the head, sending the second-year safety to the turf.

Lions trainers rushed onto the field, and after receiving medical attention, Norris was placed in an ambulance and taken to a local hospital.

On the next snap, Falcons quarterback Emory Jones walked to midfield, where players from both teams gathered in a circle to pray as the clock ran. No further plays were run, and officials eventually ended the game, which Detroit won 17-10.

The game remained paused for several minutes before officials suspended play entirely with 6:19 left on the clock. Lions coach Dan Campbell and Falcons coach Raheem Morris made the decision to not finish the game.

“We’re just praying for Mo and ask that everybody prays for him,” said Lions coach Campbell, who said he had “positive information” from hospital.

“He’s breathing. He’s talking. He has some movement,” Campbell added.
