After playing back-to-back draws to River Plate and Inter Milan, the Liga MX side surged ahead in Group E, finishing second behind Inter and earning a round-of-16 date with Borussia Dortmund next Tuesday in Atlanta.
The floodgates opened in the 30th minute when Nelson Deossa unleashed a 35-yard screamer that eluded Urawa goalkeeper Shusaku Nishikawa.
Following the mandatory cooling break, German Berterame doubled the lead by slotting home into the bottom right corner.
Jesus Corona then curled a spectacular long-range strike into the net in the 39th, before Berterame completed his brace deep into second-half stoppage time.
"We got a win, that is what we were looking for. There was a lot of sacrifice in the match. It was a tough start, from the very first match until now, they were all tough. So we did grind our teeth and go for it," Berterame, man of the match, said after the game.
