Monster Hunter Wilds: Graphics and framerate concerns ahead of February 28 release

As the latest entry in Capcom’s blockbuster franchise and the successor to Monster Hunter: World—the best-selling game in Capcom’s history—expectations were high.
Technical analysis of Monster Hunter Wilds
Digital Foundry recently shared their technical review of the game, breaking down the three display modes available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, along with their impact on resolution and performance.Among these modes, only Resolution mode offers 60 FPS gameplay. It targets a 900p resolution but can drop as low as 720p during demanding sequences, scaling up to 1080p in less intensive moments. However, the lower resolutions result in blurrier visuals and noticeable visual cutbacks, such as simplified reflections and reduced detail levels.

The game also employs AMD FSR 1 for upscaling to 4K, but without any additional image-enhancement processes, leaving visuals looking worse.
Monster Hunter Wilds’ worst-performing mode
The worst-performing mode suffers not only from the most severe visual downgrades—such as the removal of screen space reflections and lower texture quality—but also from frequent framerate drops below 30 FPS, making for a subpar gameplay experience.Monster Hunter Wilds: Release date and pre-orders
