Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami will be back as the 29th edition of America's Major League Soccer (MLS) is all set to be kicked off this week.

The upcoming MLS season will have a total of 29 soccer teams divided into two conference - East and West. Eastern Conference will have 15 teams and Western segment comprises of 14.

While Apple TV will telecast all games via MLS Season Pass, FOX Sports will show as many as 34 matches for viewers in the US.


A live television streaming platform such as DirecTV Stream provides access to all FOX channels, granting viewers a live broadcast of every game scheduled for network TV. Currently, DirecTV Stream offers a complimentary five-day trial period, allowing users to evaluate the service and stream MLS games online at no cost, as per a report in The Hollywood Reporter.

Major League Soccer is set to start the season with replacement referees, after the union representing MLS officials overwhelmingly rejected a new collective bargaining agreement proposed by its employer, the Professional Referees Organization (PRO), the league has said, as per Reuters report.

Officials from the Professional Soccer Referees Association (PSRA) union will be locked out starting at midnight ET on Saturday. The MLS season opens Wednesday with Lionel Messi's Inter Miami hosting Real Salt Lake, followed by a full slate of games over the weekend, Reuters reported.

The move comes in response to the union's rejection of a five-year package that PRO claims would increase overall compensation by 25 percent.
