MLB All-Star Game: Shohei Ohtani leads off for NL, Gleyber Torres for AL

NL manager Dave Roberts - also Ohtani’s skipper with the Los Angeles Dodgers - sticks to his regular-season formula by placing Ohtani, the NL’s top vote-getter, in the leadoff spot as designated hitter. He’ll be followed by Braves hometown hero Ronald Acuna Jr. in left field, and Arizona’s Ketel Marte at second base.

Dodgers veteran Freddie Freeman bats cleanup, trailed by Manny Machado (Padres, 3B), Will Smith (Dodgers, C), Kyle Tucker (Cubs, RF), Francisco Lindor (Mets, SS), and Pete Crow-Armstrong (Cubs, CF). Pittsburgh Pirates phenom Paul Skenes will start on the mound for the National League for the second straight year.

On the American League side, Yankees manager Aaron Boone has moved Torres up from his usual No. 2 slot to lead off. Tigers outfielder Riley Greene follows him in the two-hole, with Yankees slugger Aaron Judge - the top overall vote-getter - batting third. Seattle’s Cal Raleigh, the current MLB home run leader, hits cleanup, followed by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Blue Jays, 1B), Ryan O’Hearn (Orioles, DH), Junior Caminero (Rays, 3B), Javier Baez (Tigers, CF), and rookie Jacob Wilson (Athletics, SS). Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal will take the ball as the AL starter.
