Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell faced renewed concerns about his health after freezing for about 28 seconds during a recent press conference. The 81-year-old Kentucky Republican had to be escorted away from the lectern by colleagues.

This incident occurred four months after he suffered a concussion and a broken rib from a fall in March. Reports also revealed that McConnell had experienced two other falls this year, one at a Washington, D.C. airport in July and another during a foreign trip in February.

A source close to the senator confirmed these incidents, while a McConnell spokesperson declined to comment on the falls, stating that the senator had been using a wheelchair in certain circumstances as a precautionary measure in crowded areas.

McConnell's previous injuries include a shoulder fracture from a fall at his home in Louisville in 2019, but the most serious injury occurred earlier this year when he fell at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Washington, D.C. That incident resulted in a concussion and broken ribs, sidelining him for about six weeks.

While a concussion can have various impacts on a person's health, it remains unclear whether McConnell sought medical treatment for the March injuries or other falls this year. Experts describe concussions as invisible injuries that may have symptoms resolving within two weeks, but some cases may experience lingering symptoms or persistent post-concussion syndrome for more extended periods.

The Republican leader's aides highlight his continued activity as minority leader, attending events and meetings with foreign dignitaries, but he has refrained from addressing questions about his health directly.
