Kirk was fatally shot at a college campus event in Utah on September 10. President Donald Trump and top officials have sought to predominately blame the "radical left" for political violence in the country despite attacks against both Democrats and Republicans in recent years.
Although the suspected killer’s political leaning has stormed the discourse. The 22-year-old Utah native Tyler Robinson reportedly comes from a Republican household, while his roommate Lance Twiggs was in the process of transitioning from male to female, a law enforcement source told the New York Post. Twiggs, also an aspiring pro gamer, showed support for Joe Biden on social media.
Below is a brief summary of what the vice president said about the conservative activist.
Report those who celebrate Charlie Kirk's death
The VP has also targeted people who celebrate the killing of Kirk and said they should be held accountable. "Call them out, and hell, call their employer," Vance said.
Pilots, medical professionals, teachers, and one Secret Service employee have been suspended or fired for making inappropriate social media posts about Kirk's death.
"We don't believe in political violence, but we do believe in civility." He added.
The far-left ecosystem
"Of course, we have to make sure that the killer is brought to justice," Vance said. "And importantly, we have to talk about this incredibly destructive movement of left-wing extremism that has grown up over the last few years and, I believe, is part of the reason why Charlie was killed by an assassin's bullet."
Vance also called out the “far left” and its increased tolerance for violence while guest-hosting Charlie Kirk’s podcast on Monday, saying the administration would be working to dismantle groups who celebrate Kirk’s death and political violence against their opponents.
He said, 'With God as my witness, we are going to use every resource we have at the DOJ, Homeland Security and throughout this government to identify, disrupt, dismantle, and destroy these networks. We will do it in Charlie's name.'
Vance's reflections on Kirk
Vance credited Kirk for his own political rise, stating, “If it weren’t for Charlie Kirk, I would not be vice president of the United States,” Vance told White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, as quoted by the New York Post.
He described Kirk as a ‘joyful warrior for our country’ and ‘the smartest political operative I ever met’ who was vital in energizing youth voter turnout and providing political guidance.
Vance drew lessons from Kirk’s character, recounting that Kirk’s widow had shared how her husband had never been harsh or mean-spirited. Vance said he would honor Kirk by striving to be a better husband and father.
