Mindy Kaling has responded to the online criticism that Meghan Markle has been receiving following the release of her new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.

The Mindy Project star said that she had a great time filming the show, Page Six reported.

Kaling, 45, appeared on Thursday’s episode of The View to talk about her own new show, Running Point. During the conversation, co-host Alyssa Farrah Griffin asked Mindy about her experience cooking and hanging out with Meghan Markle, 43, while filming for the cooking and lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan.


"You know, I had a brilliant time," Kaling began, before hinting at the social media buzz surrounding a conversation she had with Meghan about the duchess's surname (it’s “Sussex,” not “Markle”).

"I noticed that whenever I do anything related to Meghan, it tends to become...," she started, pausing as if looking for the right words.

The Mindy Project star then addressed the TikTok videos that have emerged, analysing the moment when the Duchess of Sussex corrected Kaling for not using her Sussex surname.

While making sandwiches, Kaling explained that TikTok videos would zoom in on her face, suggesting that she was experiencing a particular emotion. She admitted that she did not even remember the moment, as it was filmed about nine months ago.

Despite the criticism of the new series, the Never Have I Ever co-creator thoroughly enjoyed her time filming with Markle.

Kaling expressed how much she loved her time with Meghan, adding that she felt people should let Meghan promote her show. She found the entire experience fascinating and enjoyed seeing the public's reaction.

The Office alum made a guest appearance on the second episode of With Love, Meghan, Markle’s cooking and lifestyle series.

The two women revealed that they first connected through email, and they formed a bond over their shared experiences of motherhood, which led to the start of their friendship.

In the episode, Kaling referred to Meghan by her maiden name (Markle), but Meghan corrected Kaling, telling her that her surname is now Sussex (not Markle). This interaction then went viral, meaning it spread widely on social media, likely due to the notable correction and the attention it received online.

Meghan found it amusing that Kaling kept referring to her by her maiden name, saying it was now Sussex. She explained that after having children, she realised how important it was to share a surname with them. She hadn’t anticipated how meaningful it would feel, but it had become significant to her to use the family name, as it represented their little family. Kaling responded, saying that she now understood and loved it.
