Mike Brown is reportedly all set to become coach of the New York Knicks who have offered their coaching job to Mike Brown and are working to finalize a deal with the two-time NBA Coach of the Year, according to multiple reports. Brown would replace Tom Thibodeau, who was fired last month despite leading the Knicks to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years. He had his second interview with the Knicks on Tuesday before the job was offered, the person told The Associated Press. The plan to hire Brown was first reported by ESPN. Brown earned his second award as the NBA's top coach after leading Sacramento Kings to the playoffs in 2022-23, but the Kings fired him nearly halfway through last season.

Who is Mike Brown?

55-year-old Brown was fired by the Sacramento Kings last December after two-plus seasons. He previously coached the Cleveland Cavaliers (2005-10) and Los Angeles Lakers (2011-12) and has a career record of 454-304.


Brown has won four NBA championships as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs (2003) and the Golden State Warriors (2017, 2018 and 2022). He led the Cavaliers to the 2006-07 NBA Finals, where they were swept by the Spurs.

Brown led the Sacramento Kings to the playoffs in 2023, their first appearance since 2006, and was voted coach of the year. He went 107-88 there in 2 1/2 seasons before he was fired during this past season.

Brown also won the coaching award in 2009 with Cleveland and is 454-304 in his career.

New York Knicks Coach


The Knicks reportedly conducted a second interview with Brown on Tuesday and also were said to be considering former Charlotte Hornets head coach James Borrego and Minnesota Timberwolves assistant coach Micah Nori.

The Knicks cast a wide net to replace Thibodeau. They attempted to interview current head coaches -- including Jason Kidd of the Dallas Mavericks, Chris Finch of the Timberwolves and Ime Udoka of the Houston Rockets -- but were denied permission by those teams.

They also interviewed former Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins, as well as South Carolina championship-winning coach Dawn Staley for the opening.

Thibodeau was fired June 3 despite leading the Knicks to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years. Like, Brown he also won NBA Coach of the Year honors with two teams.
