Microsoft is developing a new iteration of Windows that would serve as an upgrade to Windows 11, as per reports. In fact, the tech giant has already provided a sneak peek at a prototype desktop design for the new Windows, which could potentially be included in Windows 12, codenamed "Next Valley."

Microsoft is reportedly aiming to launch Windows 12 in the fall of 2024. It's important to note that as of February 2023, Microsoft has not officially announced the release of Windows 12 or a specific date for it. The name "Windows 12" is also subject to change, as Microsoft has previously skipped a version number in the past. It is also possible for the release date to be postponed or altered.

The information regarding the 2024 release of Windows 12 comes from a reputable Windows journalist named Zac Bowden from Windows Central, who received the details from his reliable sources at Microsoft. These sources claim that Microsoft has a three-year release cycle planned for their Windows operating system updates. If reports are to be believed, we can expect Windows 13 in the fall of 2027 and Windows 14 in the fall of 2030.

Microsoft has not officially announced the release of Windows 12 or a specific date for it. However, a leaked image of a new Windows desktop interface was shown during the Microsoft Ignite keynote in October 2022, which could be a prototype for Windows 12. The leaked image shows a floating taskbar, a floating search box, and system icons displayed in the top-right corner of the screen, among other changes.

According to similar reports, this image represents the design goals that Microsoft is hoping to achieve with the next version of Windows. Microsoft is reportedly working on a larger redesign of other elements of Windows, including a new lock screen and notification center. Additionally, the floating search box may include AI features, given Microsoft's recent integration of AI chat features into Bing, Microsoft Edge, and Microsoft Office. As the release of Windows 12 draws nearer, Microsoft is expected to announce its official features.
