Microsoft Windows 11 23H2: Check release date, confirmed features and other details

Windows 11 23H2 is the next major feature update for Windows 11, scheduled to be released before the end of 2023. The update will include a number of new features, including Windows AI Copilot, Dynamic Lighting, and one-click Taskbar app ungrouping.

Since its initial release in late 2021, Microsoft has incorporated numerous additional features into Windows 11. However, it appears that more features are on the horizon and will be introduced soon.

In the September 2022 update, a significant amount of new functionality was included, and later in October 2022, File Explorer tabs were finally introduced. Subsequently, in February 2023, another set of new features was released.

These updates, known as 'Moment' updates, seem to be the future direction for Microsoft, but that doesn't mean they will completely eliminate major feature updates. Version 23H2 is scheduled to be released before the end of 2023, and some of its noteworthy new features have already been disclosed.

Following the introduction of Windows 11, Microsoft initially indicated a shift to annual feature updates instead of the previous biannual approach of Windows 10. However, rumours in July 2022 suggested that more frequent "Moment" updates would replace this annual cadence.

Recent reports indicate that Microsoft has indirectly confirmed the existence of the 23H2 update in preview builds from May 2023. The preview build, labelled as an "Evaluation Copy," is set to expire on September 15, 2023, which could indicate a potential release window for 23H2.

While it's possible, the specific date mentioned may not be accurate, and plans could change between now and then. The gradual rollout of the update means it might take some time to reach all Windows 11 devices. However, users will have the opportunity to test it in advance through the Windows Insider Program. It's worth noting that signing up for the experimental Canary Channel, which may include potential Windows 12 features, is not necessary.
