Microsoft attempts to compete with Google with its AI-powered Bing search engine
Microsoft is investing billions in AI to compete with Google and improve its search engine Bing and Edge web browser. The company announced the decision on Tuesday. Google has responded with its own AI chatbot, Bard.

This move from Windows-maker is seen as a direct challenge to California-based tech giant Google’s search engine and browser Chrome. Microsoft is launching an AI-powered chatbot to work alongside Bing's search results. The chatbot has the ability to summarize web pages, combine information from multiple sources, write emails, and perform translations.
Collaborating with OpenAI, the creators of popular chatbot ChatGPT, Microsoft intends to surpass its competitor in Silicon Valley and possibly generate an additional $2 billion in search advertising income, according to reports. According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, in a press conference at the company's headquarters in Redmond, Washing, “This technology is going to reshape pretty much every software category.”
ChatGPT turned out to be success – reaching a million users in merely 5 days. Furthermore, OpenAI’s chatbot boasts nearly 100 million monthly active users.
How does the revamped Bing work?
Microsoft's updated search engine, Bing, aims to revolutionize the way people search for information on the internet. The integration of a chatbot will help users narrow down their queries for more accurate and up-to-date results. The AI-powered engine will provide clear and understandable answers, combining information from the web and its own databases, rather than just presenting links to websites. Queries about current events will be based on live data from the internet.
How to access updated Bing?
To use the new Bing search engine, users must sign in to a Microsoft account through bing.com/new to be added to a waiting list. To bypass the waitlist, users can make Bing their default search engine on their PC and scan a QR code to download the Bing app on their phone. During the initial testing stage, users will only be able to run pre-set queries. The option for free-form queries will be available at a later time.
