Michelle Obama jokes about being single and staying with strangers, here’s what she said
Michelle Obama recently joked about the idea of staying in a stranger's house through Airbnb, sparking online buzz during an event promoting the platform's new feature allowing stays with hosts. Highlighting safety concerns, especially for women, ...

“If I’m a single girl, I’m like, ‘I don’t know if I want to stay in your house,’” she said, making the audience laugh.
She was sitting alongside Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky and TV host David Chang. The discussion focused on Airbnb’s new “Icons” feature, which offers guests unique experiences, including overnight stays at the homes of celebrities or public figures.
Chesky, one of the company’s founders, explained that people seek more personal and authentic travel. Obama agreed but noted that people, especially women, still want to feel safe.
As part of Airbnb’s new campaign, Michelle Obama will offer an exceptional experience through her charity, the Girls Opportunity Alliance. Two winners and their guests will spend time with her and participate in events focused on girls’ education. The stay will take place at the Obama Foundation’s Chicago headquarters.
Obama said she hopes to inspire young people, especially girls, by giving them a once-in-a-lifetime experience. “We can open the doors and bring people in,” she said. “I want girls to know they belong in these spaces.”
She also spoke about how travel can help people grow. “It’s hard to hate up close,” she said, referring to how meeting people from different backgrounds can help reduce prejudice.
The Airbnb “Icons” program also includes stays with other celebrities. Some lucky users may be able to book a night in Prince’s studio, the Ferrari museum, or even the X-Men mansion.
Michelle Obama’s involvement is part of a larger effort to mix travel with storytelling and social impact.
