Michael Keaton claims first-ever Emmy for 'Dopesick', called out his 'Doubters'
Dopesick is a drama series based on Beth Macy’s non-fiction book of the same name. Michael Keaton plays the lead role of Dr. Samuel Finnix in the drama series that explores the opioid crisis in the United States.

During his acceptance speech, Michael Keaton mentioned that none of his family had ever been “patrons of the arts”, he thanked his family for standing for him and never making him feel foolish. However, the Emmy Award winner said that he had made a fool of himself a lot of times, which he thought was the reason behind his success.
Keaton also took the opportunity to call out his “doubters” that he’s had over the years. He mentioned that he had been through many times and faced the doubters, though he said that everything was cool between him and his doubters. In the end, Keaton also remembered those who stuck with him through the rough times, calling them “true believers.”
Michael Keaton had been nominated for the Emmys once, way back in 2004, for Fred Rogers: America’s Favorite Neighbor. However, that was in the non-fiction category, and Keaton didn’t win. This year, the legend was nominated in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, and he won the award.
Speaking to Variety, Keaton had said that he felt cynical and sad that he was shocked by nothing. He spoke about the ineffectiveness of a citizen in the complex and sinister market games. He added that though he got pissed off at times thinking about the whole opioid crisis in the country, getting angry wore a person down and led to nowhere.
