Known for his fiery personality on the field, Irvin revealed that his wife’s symptoms first surfaced around 8–10 years ago. During a candid chat, he revealed that initially it looked like normal aging or menopause, but soon it became clear that there was something serious happening.

“It’s quite hard to take care of someone 24 hours a day… I have to keep a 24-hour nurse with her all the time,” he said. Juggling caregiving duties alongside his public persona has posed a deep and ongoing struggle. For the former NFL star, the focus has always been on Sandy’s comfort and dignity. He elaborated: “If anyone has earned the right to stay in her house, MY WIFE HAS!!! … That I shall honour. No matter what it takes.”
