His courage was recognised publicly when he received the Overcoming Adversity Award at the Spirit of Northern Ireland Awards in 2025.

In an emotional social media post, his wife Naomi wrote: “Words can’t describe how broken-hearted we are.”

She described him as an inspiration not only during his illness but throughout his life.

Naomi added, “He lived a life as full as any human can live. Joy, abundance of spirit, infectious laughter. A titan of a ginger haired man.”

She also thanked everyone who supported them over the past few years. Patrick is survived by Naomi, his mother Pauline, siblings Kate, Maurice and Hannah, and his nephew Micheál. His funeral mass is scheduled for Monday.
