The win marked Miami’s second straight and lifted them to fifth place in the Eastern Conference with a 10-3-5 record (35 points). Meanwhile, New England (6-8-6) suffered its second consecutive loss and extended its winless streak to five matches.
Messi opened the scoring in the 27th minute after capitalizing on a defensive lapse. Following a failed clearance in New England’s box, Messi intercepted a loose header and fired a sharp strike past goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic to put Miami ahead 1-0.
The Argentine legend doubled the lead in the 38th minute, finishing off a brilliant through-ball from longtime teammate Sergio Busquets. As Busquets threaded a perfectly timed pass between two defenders, Messi collected it in stride and slotted a clinical shot just inside the far post, beating Ivacic for what would become the match-winning goal.
New England managed to pull one back in the 79th minute through Carles Gil, whose strike from the top of the box gave the hosts hope. However, Inter Miami’s defense, anchored by keeper Oscar Ustari, held firm through regulation and stoppage time to secure all three points.
