Mercedes introduces new Formula 1 car W14. See details

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will be hoping that Mercedes's highly anticipated new black Formula 1 vehicle W14 will help them make a comeback in 2023.

The W14 is the vehicle charged with getting the team back into title’s contention with Red Bull and Ferrari after they finished a shocking third place in the previous season. The motorsport titans were F1's dominant and record-breaking force from 2014 to 2021.

It is also the vehicle Hamilton will use to attempt to win a record-breaking eighth drivers' championship after finishing sixth in 2022, which was his worst-ever finish in an F1 season.


The W14's covers were removed at Silverstone on Wednesday morning after Mercedes made improvements to it in response to their difficulties in the inaugural season of F1's significant regulation changes, however, they did so while temporarily keeping the sidepod design.

In an effort to combat racism, Mercedes ran with a black livery in 2020 and 2021. Team manager Toto Wolff said during the unveiling of the vehicle last year that the team's colors moving forward would be silver and black.

The team claims they are returning to the later livery "in the sake of performance," much as many of its competitors are doing in an effort to shed pounds.


Later today, Hamilton and Russell will both be operating the vehicle on the Northamptonshire track for the first time.

Before the season starts at the same circuit as the Bahrain GP on March 5, preseason testing takes place in Bahrain from February 23 to 25.
