Mel B’s only child with Eddie Murphy, his 10th, comes out as a trans man

Mel B and Eddie Murphy’s child, Angel Iris Murphy Brown, has publicly come out as a transgender man. Angel marked the announcement on Instagram after turning 18 in April, updating his pronouns to “he/him.” Angel was born on April 3, 2007, the daughter of a brief relationship between Spice Girls star Melanie “Mel B” Brown and Beverly Hills Cop star Eddie Murphy.

Despite early paternity disputes, Murphy initially questioned his fatherhood; DNA tests confirmed his fatherhood later in 2007. The couple has since reconciled and co-parent Angel.

Angel turned 18 in April 2025. Mel B shared personal photos on Instagram to celebrate, expressing deep pride and joy.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY ANGEL!!! … You are so special and so bright and so talented!! I couldn’t be prouder … Love you always,” she wrote.

Soon after, Angel updated his Instagram bio to reflect his new pronouns, “he/him.” As per reports quoted in the Daily Mail, both parents endorsed his decision:

This update follows a growing trend of celebrity children coming out as transgender. For example, Robert De Niro’s daughter, Airyn, publicly affirmed her identity earlier this month.

Angel is the only child Mel B shares with Murphy. She is also mother to Phoenix Chi Gulzar (26) and Madison Brown Belafonte (13). Eddie Murphy, meanwhile, is the father of ten children and has multiple partners.

Murphy embraces his role as a devoted father. He described parenthood as “the greatest blessing” and maintains close bonds with all his children.

Angel has previously expressed himself as creative and independent, with a keen interest in technology and design. This public announcement is an important personal milestone for Angel as he begins adulthood.
