According to Billboard, Megan and 1501 have now come to an amicable agreement, mutually deciding to part ways and putting an end to their legal differences. The terms of this settlement remain confidential, with no specific details disclosed.
In a statement, Carl Crawford, the head of 1501 Certified Entertainment, expressed his best wishes for Megan's life and career, marking a significant turning point in their professional relationship.
This legal dispute was rooted in a lack of clarity regarding Megan Thee Stallion's contractual obligations. In 2020, Megan revealed that, when she initially signed her contract at the age of 20, she didn't have a full understanding of its contents. She cited her youthful inexperience as a factor in this lack of awareness.
The legal wrangling continued into 2021, with a dispute arising over the categorization of Megan's 2021 release, "Something For Thee Hotties." While Megan considered it a mixtape, 1501 classified it as an album, further complicating matters. 1501 then counter-sued, alleging repeated breaches of contract on Megan's part.
Recently, Megan Thee Stallion hinted at her newfound independence as an artist, declaring her intention to operate without being tied to a record label. She mentioned that she didn't want to sign with a new label at this time, as she is eager to take control of her own career. Megan stated that she is currently funding her projects independently, marking a significant shift in her approach.
"I have no label right now, and we're doing everything funded straight out of Megan Thee Stallion's pocket so the budget is coming from me," she shared during an Instagram Live session. "It's really just me until we sign to a new label."
In the 2021 Grammy's, Megan won the Best New Artist award, and also secured the Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for "Savage (Remix) along with Beyoncé.
