A megachurch pastor is stepping down as he sent a woman inappropriate texts on social media. The pastor will be taking a leave of absence in the aftermath of the inquiry. The Dallas Morning News reports suggest that the church elders reviewed his messages by hiring a law firm. Southern Baptist Village's lead pastor, Matt Chandler, has had a history of sending messages, and someone reported him.

The Confrontation

Church elders stated that Matt Chandler was confronted by an individual a few months ago, who was concerned about how Matt was sending direct messages to women, who were not his wife. A law firm scrutinized the lead pastor of the Village Church after being hired by the church elders. The law firm checked his message history.

The church elders said Matt violated their internal social media use policies and noted that while the messages weren't sexual or romantic, their familiarity and frequency crossed a line. The megachurch pastor, Matt Chandler, said that no one would be above the scriptures and Jesus Christ in their church. He claimed that the church elders had found something unhealthy in him. He said he fell short of the standard the gods expected from him.

The Christ Church Cathedral was arguably New Zealand's most iconic building before much of it crumbled in an earthquake 10 years ago. As the city on Monday marks one decade since the quake struck, killing 185 people and upending countless more lives, there are finally signs of progress on the cathedral.

It's being rebuilt to look much like the original that was finished in 1904, only with modern-day improvements to make it warmer and safer, even to add extra much-needed bathrooms. But first, workers must stabilize the remains.
