McDonald's special limited edition meals add to 'A Minecraft Movie' fever

With the release of 'A Minecraft Movie' just days away, special meals inspired by the highly popular Minecraft video game were introduced to McDonald's menu on Tuesday (April 1). The collaboration gives Minecraft fans a choice to select between two entrees for their meal: a Big Mac or a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets. The McNuggets version comes with the limited-edition sweet-and-spicy Nether Flame Sauce.

The condiment is prepared using crushed red pepper and flaming cayenne, USA Today noted. It also carries a hint of garlic. Meanwhile, the Big Mac version of the themed meal "has a taste like no other—the mouthwatering perfection starts with two 100 per cent pure all beef patties and Big Mac sauce sandwiched between a sesame seed bun", says McDonald's. "It’s topped off with pickles, crisp shredded lettuce, finely chopped onion and a slice of American cheese," adds the official description for the entree option.

McDonalds Minecraft movie meal: Available versions

As part of the limited-time campaign, one themed meal for adults and another one, a happy meal version, will be available for purchase. Each meal will feature an entree, a drink, fries and one of the six limited-time collectibles available as part of the collaboration.

A Happy Meal version of the themed meals allows children to select a Hamburger or Chicken McNuggets as the entree. The selection will be accompanied by fries, apple slices, and a beverage of choice. The Happy Meals gets its Minecraft-styled touch with one of 12 figurines inspired by A Minecraft Movie.

The Happy Meal also comes with a gateway to a digital experience that lets the customer dive into a game by scanning a code. The game lets players embark on an adventure of their own in A Minecraft Movie.

A Minecraft Movie meal comes with one of six collectibles inspired by McDonald’s most beloved characters and menu items, and popular Minecraft treasures. These are:

With every A Minecraft Movie meal bought through the McDonald’s app, comes a free in-game bonus. The purchase also provides the customer with a one-time redeemable code that unlocks the McDonald’s add-on pack in Minecraft. The add-on pack provides the user with additional components for an entertaining gaming experience. These include McDonaldland characters, and tools, as per USA Today. A Minecraft Movie, a live-action film inspired by Minecraft, is scheduled to hit theatres globally on April 4.
