Matthew Perry: Former SNL writer faces heat online after mocking actor's death

Kevin Brennan, a former writer for Saturday Night Live, has sparked outrage with his recent tweets mocking the tragic passing of beloved actor Matthew Perry. In a shocking post, Brennan callously commented on Perry's death, stating, "DROWNED IN A HOT TUB. HAHAHAHA."

Brennan, a 63-year-old comedian, who had a brief tenure on SNL in 1999, went on to make further insensitive remarks about the iconic Friends star, who graced television screens for ten seasons in one of the most successful TV shows of all time. He callously remarked, "I didn’t mock it. I just thought it was funny. But I do love it when junkies die." Brennan even attempted to rationalize his heartless comment, asserting that drowning in a hot tub is amusing "because it’s not very deep."

Predictably, the response to Brennan's tweets has been one of shock and condemnation. Many expressed their disbelief at the mindset of someone who would post such hurtful remarks. One commenter stated, "I will never understand the mindset of someone who posts shit like this. I wish you well bc you must be sick." Another voiced their outrage, saying, "Kevin Brennan should be blacklisted and never hired as a writer ever again for speaking condescending about a dead actor."


Matthew Perry, aged 54, passed away at his Los Angeles residence over the weekend. Perry, while achieving immense fame through Friends, also battled substance abuse for many years.

In a joint statement, Friends producers Marta Kauffman, David Crane, and Kevin Bright expressed their sorrow at the loss of the talented actor. They remarked, "It still seems impossible. It’s a cliche to say that an actor makes a role their own, but in Matthew’s case, there are no truer words."
