Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson was ejected for the first time in his 1,222-game MLB career after disputing a controversial batter’s interference call. Manager Brian Snitker was also tossed following a heated exchange with umpires during Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The incident occurred in the sixth inning when Olson lifted a popup into foul territory near first base.

Pirates catcher Henry Davis collided with Olson by the batter’s box and dropped the ball in front of the Braves’ dugout. However, home plate umpire Brock Ballou ruled Olson out for interference, determining he had impeded Davis’ attempt to make the catch.

Olson immediately protested the call, while Snitker stormed out of the dugout to argue with Ballou and crew chief Mark Wegner. Wegner quickly ejected Snitker, who continued his animated argument with the umpires.

Olson remained upset and, after continuing the dispute between innings, was ejected by Ballou before the start of the seventh. The rare dismissal marked the first ejection of Olson’s major league career, underscoring the Braves’ mounting frustration with the ruling.
