Walmart, the USA's largest private employer, is back in the spotlight. This time, Walmart is apparently making headlines for job cuts. Walmart has roughly 1.6 million workers, making it the biggest private employer in the US. The company's website states that it has approximately 2.1 million employees worldwide.

Walmart also announced in May that it would have to increase prices because of the high cost of the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.

Why is Walmart restructuring again?

The retail giant is getting rid of hundreds of jobs as part of its most recent organizational simplification. Walmart is reorganizing some store support and training positions, an internal memo obtained by Reuters has revealed. Bloomberg reported first that hundreds of store-support positions would be impacted.

This restructuring is just another big step the company is taking to make things run more smoothly and efficiently.

What roles are being cut?

The cuts include getting rid of market coordinator jobs and changing the way training academy jobs work, according to a memo sent on Wednesday by Cedric Clark, executive vice president of store operations at Walmart U.S.

According to the memo, as it looks to shift its focus to higher volume locations and train more associates in person, the company also intends to modify some roles in its training academies.

Will affected employees be reassigned?

The company plans to relocate many affected employees to different positions while continuing to prioritize locations with higher customer traffic.

The memo stated that Walmart intends to provide impacted workers with substitute coaching positions and even create some new positions in areas without available positions.

The most recent action demonstrates the business's ongoing attempts to optimize its processes. In May, Walmart revealed plans to lay off roughly 1,500 employees, affecting teams in its advertising company Walmart Connect, e-commerce fulfillment in U.S. stores, and global technology operations.

As part of a plan to move staff to its primary centers in California and Arkansas, the company closed its North Carolina office and laid off some employees in February.
