Mark Johnson appointed as new head coach of MK Dons

Mark Johnson’s first game in charge of MK Dons comes on Boxing Day at home against Forest Green Rovers. His next destinations are at Peterborough United and then league leaders Plymouth.

Jackson, who oversaw Friday's practice, becomes the fourth different MK Dons manager to become the club's head coach, following Karl Robinson, Dan Micciche, and Russell Martin.

However, the duration of MK Dons' contract has not been announced. Prior to being promoted to first-team coach in March, the ex-Leeds and Scunthorpe United defender was in charge of many Elland Road, youth squads.


Having joined the MK Dons in the summer of 2021 from Belgian club Lommel, Liam Manning guided them to a third-place finish and a spot in the League One playoffs the season before. However, they could not advance because of a two-legged loss against Wycombe Wanderers.



The club had to be reassembled when many key players quit, and in their first three league defeats, they failed to score a single goal. Two wins in their next three games got them to 13th place at the season's end, but a 2-1 loss to Shrewsbury on October 8 has kept them in the bottom three.

Mark Jackson debuted for Leeds in March of 1996, a 10-0 home defeat to Middlesbrough in the Premier League. At the time, manager Howard Wilkinson was in charge of the club.

Although he made 23 appearances for his hometown club, he spent most of his career at Scunthorpe, where he played over 160 games between 2000 and 2005.
