Marathon Petroleum refinery in Garyville town of Louisiana claims to have contained a fire and leak in the chemical storage tank of its refinery.

ESJ Prep Academy, Fifth Ward Elementary and ESJ High School have been placed under a shelter in place order due to a fire at Marathon Petroleum.

Marathon Petroleum Corp. also has asked all the residents living in a radius of one mile to evacuate temporarily. In a statement, it said, “As a precautionary measure, St. John the Baptist Parish is requiring residents within a one-mile radius of the part of the refinery closest to the fire to temporarily evacuate to locations the Parish is making available.”
It said further, “As always, our main priority is to ensure the safety of our employees and contractors, our neighbors within our surrounding community, first responders, and to limit environmental impact.”
