Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho's future at the club may be in doubt, as Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for the Red Devils winger in the January transfer window.

According to The Sun, Manchester United are contemplating the transfer as part of their efforts to address ongoing financial difficulties. The Argentine player could be sold to Chelsea for a fee of up to £60 million, reports suggest.

Earlier, Napoli had expressed interest in signing the 20-year-old winger but later shifted their focus to Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi, according to Sky News.

Garnacho has been a standout performer for Manchester United. Over 119 appearances for the club, the Argentine footballer has recorded 23 goals and 14 assists.

However, Manchester United are under mounting pressure to resolve persistent financial issues, particularly concerning compliance with Premier League profitability and sustainability rules (PSR). These financial strains also extend to addressing the redevelopment of Old Trafford and other pressing matters.

In a letter to fan groups Fan Coalition 58 and The 1958, Manchester United revealed that the club has incurred losses exceeding £300 million over the past three years. The letter highlighted that such losses are unsustainable and may result in non-compliance with PSR/FFP (Financial Fair Play) regulations, potentially jeopardising the club’s ability to compete at the highest level.




Earlier this season, the club had decided on a flat rate ticket for members priced at £66. The move, which was decided without consulting fan groups, left people fuming.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has refused to comment on the transfer rumours. After Manchester United’s 2-1 win against Rangers in the Europa League on January 23, Amorim praised the 20-year-old winger, but did not predict his future in the team.

“He's playing for Manchester United,” the Red Devils boss said, when asked whether Garnacho may have appeared in his final game for the team. “He was really important for us today. Let's see in the next days,” he added.
