Man admits assaulting Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale at Tottenham; Details here

A man has confessed to physically attacking Aaron Ramsdale, the goalkeeper for Arsenal, following a match that took place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the previous month. The incident occurred after Ramsdale's team secured a 2-0 victory over Spurs in a Premier League game on January 15th, during which he was kicked in the back.

Joseph Watts, a fan of Tottenham, pleaded guilty on Friday to a charge of physically attacking someone by hitting or striking them, in this case, Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

According to Uxbridge Magistrates' Court, the 35-year-old perpetrator, who resides in Hackney in east London, acknowledged that he not only physically assaulted Aaron Ramsdale but also entered an area near the playing field and threw an object onto the field of play.


As punishment, he was sentenced to a 12-month community order and was instructed to pay £100 to Ramsdale as compensation. In addition, he received a four-year football banning order, which prohibits him from attending any future football matches.



During the court hearing, it was disclosed that Ramsdale was attacked while he was retrieving his belongings from behind the goal and celebrating his team's triumph.

Watts dashed down the stairs and headed towards the playing area where he scaled a barrier and climbed onto an advertising banner. He then kicked Aaron Ramsdale, who was facing the opposite direction, before quickly fleeing the scene, as per the statement made in court.

In a statement read out loud in court, Ramsdale expressed that he had never been assaulted by someone who had entered the field and kicked him and that he found it unacceptable to be attacked while on the job.

Although Ramsdale had no visible injuries, he stated that his back felt "heavy," and he sought treatment from a masseuse.
