Malfunctioning roller coaster causes injuries to 12 people in New Jersey

At least 12 people have suffered injuries due to a malfunctioning roller coaster in New Jersey. The incident took place on the night of August 25 after a roller coaster installed at Six Flags Great Adventure malfunctioned. As per the amusement park, the malfunction occurred at the end of the roller coaster ride.

Officials of the amusement park stated that the El Toro roller coaster underwent a technical glitch around 7:30 pm, causing a minor accident. According to them, the incident occurred when the ride was about to end, and it caused injuries to the passengers aboard the roller coaster.

Ambulances reached the spot after they were informed about the accident. While some passengers, who suffered minor injuries, were transported to a nearby hospital, a few others reported having a back pain after the incident.





The park officials said that the roller coaster was immediately shut down following the incident. The malfunctioning of the coaster occurred minutes before the closing time of the park. The park usually closes at 8 pm, said the park authorities.

The cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained, but the Jackson Township police stated that the injuries suffered by passengers were minor.

Meanwhile, the park officials have set up an investigation into the incident, and the roller coaster will remain shut down for further inspection.

The official website of Six Flags Great Adventure park claims that the El Toro roller coaster is counted one among the tallest and fastest wooden coasters in the world. The park says that the roller coaster undergoes an initial drop of 176 feet and then reaches the top speed of 70 miles per hour in seconds. The coaster was opened to the public in the year 2006. Besides, the roller coaster takes the passengers on a thrilling high-speed ride for two minutes and five seconds.
