President Joe Biden tops the list of US citizens banned by Russia. Biden has called Russian President Vladimir Putin a war criminal ever since the start of the Ukraine crisis. The US President has been one of the most vocal critics of the Russian aggression.

The hedge fund billionaire and philanthropist George Soros has had a history with Russia. In 2015, Russia banned a pro-democracy charity founded by Soros, claiming that it posed a threat to both state security and the Russian constitution.

The former US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, was also included in the list issued in March. Throughout her political career, Clinton has called out Vladimir Putin on several occasions.

The incumbent Vice-President Kamala Harris too has joined Biden on the list of people barred from entering Russia. Harris’s husband Doug Emhoff too has figured in the list.

In 2012, an ally of Vladimir Putin announced that he would take legal action against pop star Lady Gaga for promoting gay rights to minors during her concert in Russia. The concert organisers were fined by the authorities.

In 2012, Madonna performed in St. Petersburg wearing black lingerie with the words 'No Fear' scrawled on her back. The pop icon attacked a city law promoted by legislator Vitaly Milonov that imposed fines for spreading homosexual propaganda.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been barred from entering Russia. Facebook and Instagram were earlier banned by Russia under extremism law. The Russian authorities had accused the social media applications of carrying out extremist activities.

The veteran Hollywood star Morgan Freeman is among the list of banned US citizens. Moscow accused Freeman of recording a video in 2017 where he claimed Russia was plotting against the US.

The CEO of LinkedIn, Ryan Roslansky, has been barred along with journalists and media professionals. Russia has claimed that Rolasnky and people with similar profiles have been promoting ‘Russiaphobic’ agenda.
