The Made in Hawaii Festival takes place this weekend at the Hawaii Convention Center, with organizers advising attendees to plan ahead for heavy traffic and limited parking.

Street parking near the convention center is minimal, and Made in Hawaii spokesperson Olena Heu said attendees should not expect available spaces on-site. “With the number of vendors, workers, staff, volunteers, you can do the numbers. There’s not really going to be access to parking on site,” Heu said. “So we do recommend that people find parking in other areas.”

Nearby parking may also be limited, prompting organizers to recommend alternative transportation options. “Personally I would suggest ridesharing, taxi, getting dropped off, save the hassle,” Heu said.

Some attendees may consider parking at Ala Moana Center, but organizers caution that it is at the visitor’s own risk. While free parking is available in certain areas, other stalls are reserved for mall shoppers or require payment. “Of course there are stalls that are only those that are shopping at Ala Moana center,” Heu said. “So when we say if you’re going to park there and come to the festival, you’re parking at your own risk.”

Kupuna attendees will have access to a designated rest area where they can wait while their group remains in line, joining them as they near the front. Unaccompanied kupuna may skip ahead in line to avoid long periods of standing. Signage will indicate the Kupuna Rest Area.

To improve navigation, this year’s festival will feature color-coded lanes marked with ground images and banners to help guide attendees through the event space.
