Macy Gray to Piers Morgan : Gender affirming surgery does not pave way for one to become a woman
The Grammy award-winning singer, who recently appeared on the popular talk show hosted by Piers Morgan, made some statements that have brought her severe criticism and backlash.

The episode, which aired on Monday, featured Gray saying that she feels that transgender women, who have undergone sex-change surgery, cannot be considered to be women. In times when so many groups are talking about the rights of the LGBTQ community, Gray’s statements have caused quite an uproar.
During the show, Gray categorically stated that when you “change your parts” you do not become a woman. When Morgan asked her whether she truly believes in this notion, she confidently asserted that this is a fact.
This entire conversation around what defines a woman came about when the host spoke about the ongoing debate about the representation of athletes, who identify themselves as transgender, in female sports. Gray maintained that despite her views, it would be unfair to label her as transphobic. Her comments created a stir on social media with many users trolling her for her ‘insensitive’ and ‘uninformed’ behavior.
Gray took to her Twitter account to address the concerns of the people who had issues with her statements. She claimed that she has always been a huge supporter of the LGBT community and she has always expressed herself very honestly all the time. She further stated that ‘woman’ happens to be a title that one has to ‘earn’.
