Moderate 4.1 magnitude earthquake rocks East Bay near Bay Point, says USGS

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), a moderate 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck the East Bay today. According to the USGS, the earthquake struck shortly after 5 a.m., with the epicenter at Bay Point, Contra Costa County. It went down to a depth of 12 miles. Other regions of the Bay Area, notably the North Bay and San Francisco, were affected.

As seismologists examine the information and compare their findings, or as some other organizations issue their conclusions, the quake's actual intensity, location, and depth may be altered in the coming hours or minutes.

Raspberry Shake's citizen-seismograph network later produced a second report, confirming the earthquake's magnitude of 4.1. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), a third agency, reported the same quake with a magnitude of 4.1.


Earthquake jolted near Bay Point: No casualties were reported from the earthquake

So far, there have been no reported injuries. The earthquake should not have caused any significant damage, as per the initial seismic information, although many locals likely felt it in the epicenter area as a mild vibration.

Nearby regions experience light tremors

People at Bay Point (population 21,500), which is 4 miles from the epicenter, noticed minor vibrations. Aside from that, moderate tremors were felt in the following areas: Fairfield (population: 113,000) is 12 miles away; Concord (population: 128,700) is 8 miles away; Antioch (population: 110,500) is 11 miles away; New York of the Pacific (population: 69,400) is 6 miles away; Walnut Creek (population: 68,900) is 13 miles away; Vallejo (population: 121,300) is 15 miles away; and Martinez (population: 38,100) is 9 miles away.

Other towns or places around the epicenter where the quake may have been felt as extremely weak tremors comprise San Francisco (population: 864,800), which is 32 miles from the epicenter, and Sacramento (population: 490,700), which is 44 miles away.
