Luka Doncic responds to rumours regarding a supermax contract with the Mavericks

Luka Doncic’s trade to the LA Lakers took place just days before the trade deadline, when the Mavericks specifically opened the trade window to the Lakers for a swap with the forward Anthony Davis, as reported by USA Today. In his introductory conference, the guard has reacted to rumours surrounding a supermax contract at Mavericks.

Since his move to Los Angeles, there have been rumours that the point guard was disinterested in signing a supermax contract with the Mavericks, and that has led to the trade. The air was cleared on Tuesday though at Doncic’s introductory press conference, where the five-time All-NBA first team member finally expressed that there was no sign of any disinterest towards a resign with Dallas, as per Sportskeeda.

The decision to trade Doncic to the Lakers

The news of Luka Doncic’s transfer to LA Lakers received some criticism amid all the confusion among the fans, with Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison clear about Anthony Davis to be the player fit for the team that wants to win in the present and the future.. When asked about Harrison’s comments, Doncic had a graceful reply, reports Sportskeeda:

"I'm just excited to be here to start this new journey, and obviously at some point I knew this was going to happen but I would say always take the high road," Doncic said. "I had my amazing moments in Dallas with all my teammates, coaches, and most importantly the fans, they always supported me and it was an amazing journey."

Luka Doncic followed up his letter for the Mavericks with a repost of Lakers welcoming him on X. The guard expressed his gratitude to his new team.
