Two tornadoes touched down in Lubbock County, Texas, on Wednesday evening, June 5, sending residents scrambling for cover as dramatic video footage spread online. The tornadoes were part of a fast-moving storm system that triggered a tornado warning from the National Weather Service and prompted urgent shelter advisories.

Multiple videos captured by locals show twin tornadoes on the ground simultaneously in parts of West Texas. The National Weather Service confirmed at least one tornado had touched down, while radar images indicated strong rotation in the area.

Emergency services responded quickly across Lubbock County. Crews from Lubbock Fire Rescue and other agencies were dispatched to assess damage and assist residents. While no fatalities or major injuries have been confirmed so far, several structures sustained damage, trees were uprooted, and power lines were downed. Some vehicles were also flipped due to the strong winds.

Photos and videos from the scene show debris scattered across roads and fields. In some areas, dark funnel clouds could be seen clearly rotating over open land before making contact with the ground.

Resident Austin Thorne, who captured video of the event, described it as surreal: “I saw two funnels drop from the clouds and hit the ground. It was terrifying — like something straight out of a movie.”

The National Weather Service in Lubbock has dispatched teams to conduct ground surveys to determine the EF (Enhanced Fujita) scale rating of the tornadoes based on the severity of the damage. These assessments will help confirm the tornado strength and wind speeds.

This weather event is part of a broader severe storm pattern affecting parts of West Texas and the southern Great Plains. Thunderstorms, large hail, and strong wind gusts are expected to continue in the region over the coming days.

Authorities urge residents to remain cautious, follow official weather updates, and review their emergency plans as tornado season continues. Temporary shelters have been made available for anyone displaced by the storm, and cleanup efforts are underway in affected communities.
