Lou Williams, a veteran NBA player, has decided to call it a day.

NBA veteran Lou Williams has announced his retirement. The announcement came after a remarkable 17 seasons in the league. In a heartfelt YouTube video, the 36-year-old Williams shared the news. The video features his daughter reading a poignant letter that captures the highs and lows of his illustrious career.

With deep admiration, his daughter expresses, "This is the moment you have chosen to bid farewell, while leaving an indelible mark on all of us. You poured your heart and soul into the game, leaving no stone unturned. I am genuinely proud of you, dad. On behalf of the sport, the fans, and everyone you have touched, we salute you. Well done."

Over the course of his career, Williams played for six different teams, establishing himself as a dependable and consistently productive scorer coming off the bench. Among his remarkable achievements, Williams started in only 122 of his 1,123 career games, with an astonishing 85.9% (13,396 out of 15,593 points) of his scoring coming as a reserve, setting a new NBA record for bench scoring. The next closest contender, Jamal Crawford, falls behind by 2,117 points.


Williams also claimed the prestigious NBA Sixth Man of the Year award three times, matching the record held by Jamal Crawford, in the years 2015, 2018, and 2019.

Selected in the second round of the 2005 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, Williams spent seven seasons with the team before embarking on a journey that took him to the Atlanta Hawks (2012-14; 2021-22), Toronto Raptors (2014-15), Los Angeles Lakers (2015-17), Houston Rockets (2017), and finally, the Los Angeles Clippers (2017-21).

Williams did not participate in the last season and his last game appearance was in April 2022.

Concluding his remarkable career, Williams holds a career average of 13.9 points per game, along with 2.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists.
