Dustin May, the popular pitcher of the Los Angeles Dodgers, had to undergo Tommy John Surgery last year. Unfortunately for the Dodgers, the losing streak of the team seems to continue as Dustin May has been struggling to recreate his magic with the ball.

Generally, a pitcher after undergoing a Tommy John surgery has a rather chequered performance. Sometimes his performance is ok but rarely very good. The performance of the player is generally shaky and lacks consistency till he settles down. The right-hand pitcher for the Dodgers, therefore, has not been able to perform at his best. The Padres hit Dustin and other Dodger pitchers all over the park to win by 7-1 at the Dodger's home ground, Dodger Stadium in LA.

May through had a brilliant start to the innings, which included a four-seam fastball at 100.3 mph, a 97-mph sinker, and a 86 mph curve just buckling the knee. It was as if the pitcher got back his pitching form after his surgery involving an elbow-ligament replacement.

However, despite these strong statistics Dustin May’s lack of command showed in his performance during the match. Dustin did a walk five and struck two batters in five-plus innings, he tried 2 sinkers that Machado and Drury hit for double-runs home runs in the 3rd inning. The crowd of 45,000 plus was let down in their home stadium much to May’s discomfiture.

Manager Dave Roberts for the LA Dodgers was defensive about his team and felt that criticizing every time May is not able to perform well is a bit unfair, after all, it is May’s just 3rd start with the Dodgers post-surgery. It’s a matter of time before May would be able to perform at his best and the command will follow.

The Dodgers have lost 3 games on the trot for the first time after the loss against San Francisco in June, where they lost 10-12.

Roberts best summed it up for Dustin May saying that the pitcher has great speed but if the pitcher doesn’t command it then the batters time the velocity. Some of the pitches were undoubtedly top notch but most of them misfired and that let him down.

May felt he didn’t perform to expectations and it felt bad all around. He, however, felt healthy and ready to perform better, but that match was just not his day.
