Peacock is set to release its new crime drama Long Bright River on March 13. The series stars Amanda Seyfried as a police officer navigating a complex case in Philadelphia during the opioid crisis. The show is based on Liz Moore’s novel and aims to challenge common narratives in crime dramas.

Storyline

Nikki Toscano, the showrunner, shared insights on the show’s goals. She stated that Long Bright River seeks to challenge stereotypes about addiction, poverty, sex work and law enforcement. Toscano explained that the series moves away from the traditional portrayal of police officers as saviors. The story follows Mickey Fitzpatrick, a police officer, as she uncovers the truth behind a series of murders.

The series is part of a growing trend of shows tackling the opioid epidemic in the United States. Similar series include Painkiller and Dopesick, which address the crisis from different angles. Seyfried has previously worked on socially relevant projects, including The Dropout, where she played Elizabeth Holmes in a story about fraud in the biotechnology industry.

Trailer

Peacock recently released the first trailer for Long Bright River. The trailer introduces Mickey Fitzpatrick, a dedicated police officer in Philadelphia. As she investigates a string of murders, she realizes that the case is personal. Her sister may be the next victim. Despite not being assigned to the case, Mickey refuses to stop investigating.

Cast and Production Team

Amanda Seyfried leads the cast as Mickey. Other cast members include Nicholas Pinnock, Patch Darragh, Joe Daru, Callum Vinson and OT The Real. The series is an adaptation of Liz Moore’s best-selling novel. Moore worked on the adaptation alongside Nikki Toscano, who is known for her work on The Offer.
