Lioness on loose in Berlin? Authorities tell residents to stay indoors. See what happened

Berlin authorities are hunting for a lioness, who is on the loose in south-western outskirts, as per media reports. Residents have been advised to stay indoors. Helicopters, drones and thermal cameras are being used in the search for the animal.

Residents, who live in the south-western outskirts of Berlin, have been warned to remain indoors. This comes after reports of a dangerous animal believed to be a lioness roaming around freely in the area have come to light. The animal seems to have escaped from captivity.

Brandenburg police have cautioned inhabitants in the districts of Kleinmachnow, Stahnsdorf, and Teltow, which border the German capital, against venturing into the woods and have advised them to keep their pets and farm animals indoors as a safety measure. While nurseries were allowed to open, authorities recommended that children refrain from outdoor activities.

The search for the elusive feline is in full swing. The authorities are employing helicopters, drones and thermal imaging cameras to track the whereabouts of the animal. Officials in the district of Potsdam-Mittelmark have stationed a veterinarian and two armed hunters on-site with orders to stun or, if necessary, shoot the animal.

The alarming chain of events began when two passersby reported witnessing an animal pursuing another creature, one being identified as a wild boar and the other as a lion. Video footage recorded on their smartphones corroborated the unusual sighting, prompting police officers to concur that a lioness might indeed be on the loose.

However, despite the initial sightings, police confirmed at a midday press conference that there have been no recent reports of the elusive animal. An earlier suggested sighting in the Zehlendorf district within Berlin's borders was later debunked as a false lead.

Fire services in Brandenburg have theorized that the large animal is likely a lioness. Nevertheless, the director of a nearby circus denied any knowledge of missing lions from their facilities.

Authorities have emphasized that no reports of a lion escape from any local animal parks, zoos, or circuses have been filed. Both of Berlin's zoos, the Zoological Gardens in the old west and Tiergarten Berlin in the old east, have confirmed that all their animals remain accounted for within their enclosures.
