Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc were both disqualified from Sunday's October 22 US Grand Prix after their cars failed post-race inspections.
Lewis Hamilton was disqualified from second place in the US Grand Prix after running Max Verstappen's Red Bull close for victory. Hamilton was just two seconds behind Verstappen at the flag but his car was later declared illegal for excessive wear on the underfloor skid blocks. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc suffered the same fate after finishing sixth. Hamilton's disqualification promoted McLaren's Lando Norris to second and Ferrari's Carlos Sainz to third.

What Happened to Hamilton?

Lewis Hamilton's disqualification in the US Grand Prix has left fans and experts puzzled. Before the late technical drama, Hamilton and Mercedes were on the verge of a potential victory had they played their strategy differently. The disqualification resulted from excessive wear on the underfloor skid blocks, a part of the car that prevents teams from running too low for potential aerodynamic advantages.

The race saw a hard-fought battle between Verstappen, Hamilton, and Norris. However, Mercedes' strategy backfired, forcing Hamilton onto an off-set plan, and costing him precious time.

Despite these challenges, Hamilton showcased his skill by passing Norris for second place. He made a remarkable move on Turn One, and then a cut-back on Norris at Turn Two, but ultimately couldn't catch Verstappen for the lead.

Charles Leclerc's race also took a hit when the team's one-stop strategy failed, allowing his teammate, Carlos Sainz, to overtake him in the closing laps.

How Did Verstappen Hold On?

Max Verstappen's victory in the US Grand Prix wasn't easy. The Red Bull car, which usually has a significant advantage on race pace, faced challenges on the bumpy Circuit of the Americas.

Verstappen started sixth and steadily made his way through the field. He engaged in a fierce battle with Hamilton and Norris for the lead. His well-timed pit stop on lap 28 allowed him to pass Norris for the lead.

Hamilton, on the other hand, struggled with a one-stop strategy, losing valuable time. He closed in on Norris but couldn't quite reach Verstappen, who managed to maintain his lead.

Although Mercedes believed they could have won the race with a different strategy, their disqualification overshadowed the positive performance of their upgraded car.

The US Grand Prix left fans with plenty to discuss, as the championship race continues to intensify.
