A key component of Breath of the Wild is making a triumphant return. Producer Eiji Aonuma has released a new trailer for “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” that features 10 minutes of gameplay from the (to put it mildly) highly anticipated follow-up to 2017's smash.

The video briefly discusses some low-level combat and some running around, but its main focus is on new features created to promote the type of emergent gameplay that made Breath of the Wild such a delight for many players to find.

In the original game, you could catch lightning if you were wearing metal armour, soar high on the updrafts created by burning grass, and cook a steak by placing meat on the ground next to a volcano. The game's setting has a lot of interactive elements, and the shrine puzzles in particular encouraged players to experiment with different combinations of their skills, items, and attributes in order to come up with ingenious solutions.

Thankfully, everything appears to be present and then some in the new game. Stasis and Magnesis, two powers that allowed players to defy gravity and manipulate objects in interesting ways, were introduced in Breath of the Wild. We'll be getting at least two brand-new techniques like those in “Tears of the Kingdom”, one dubbed Fuse and the other Ultra Hand.

In addition to the two new fundamental skills, Link won't have to spend as much time this time climbing mountains and grinding it out. Aonuma showed off a brand-new mobility technique that enables Link to swim up through any area with a ceiling, including structures and maybe the enormous caves found within the game's various peaks. The focus on verticality is consistent with the sky islands and other extremely high-up settings that we have previously seen in previews.
