Kylian Mbappé dismisses Emiliano Martinez’s World Cup jibes as ‘futile’, says he looks forward to PSG reunion with Lionel Messi

French forward Kylian Mbappé expressed that remained unaffected by celebratory World Cup taunts directed towards him by Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, terming them as "futile".

During the Argentinian team's dressing room celebrations in Qatar, Martinez called for a minute's silence for Mbappé and later posed with a baby doll with the striker's face stuck on it during their parade in Buenos Aires.

When confronted about the teasing tactics after his first match back in France, Mbappé responded by saying that the celebrations are not his problem. He clarified that he does not waste any energy on “such futile things”.


Earlier this month, Mbappé went on to become the first player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final since England's Sir Geoff Hurst did it back in 1966. However, despite his outstanding efforts, France still lost to Argentina during penalty shootouts.



The 24-year-old added that he spent "complicated hours" following the defeat and that he will never get over it. He also said that he is not responsible for this failure of the team, and he is going to return with the most positive energy possible.

When asked about his Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) teammate and Argentina’s captain Lionel Messi, who is due to return to France on New Year's Day following an extended break, Mbappé maintained the healthy sportsmanship and said he talked with him after the match, and congratulated him for the historic win. Mbappé also said that he looks forward to a PSG reunion with Messi and noted that winning World Cup 2022 was a dream shared by both players but France failed.
